Trip Highlights

Glover’s Reef Marine Basecamp

On the water’s edge, with dramatic views over the main reef wall and the open Caribbean Sea, is our dining area, with large raised veranda, lounge and resource library. The enclosed outdoor stoop is where your island guides give their fun and informative talks on the surrounding ecology each morning. The camp is powered by solar generated electricity with freshwater showers, modern compost toilets and solar powered refrigeration. Guests sleep in comfortable wall-tent cabanas with beds, wooden floors, a night stand, lighting and can be outfitted for singles, doubles and family sizes. Delicious meals featuring Creole and international cuisine are prepared and served buffet style in our open air dining area by our much beloved cooks.

  • The Glover’s Reef Adventure allows you to explore and stay on Glover’s Atoll, a protected marine park and designated world heritage site thirty-six miles offshore of mainland Belize.
  • Glover’s Reef is one of the most spectacular marine environments in Belize and offers some of the best kayaking, snorkeling, and diving in the Caribbean. Due to its isolation from the mainland, the waters are exceptionally clear with a rich reef ecosystem.
  • On this remote reef adventure you will enjoy flexibility in your choice of daily guided activities. You and your traveling companions can do things together or separately, making it ideal for families and couples of mixed abilities.
  • Paddle, kayak sail, fish or SUP as you explore this pristine group of tropical islands set within a turquoise lagoon.
  • Snorkel some of the 700 patch reefs in this thriving coral reef system.
  • Stay at our Adventure Basecamp on Southwest Caye, a 13 acre island within Glover's Reef Marine Reserve. Sleep in comfortable, safari style tent cabanas and dine on fresh seafood, tropical fruit, and local favorites
  • Join one of our special trip departures featuring a guest yoga instructor and start your day with an amazing sunrise yoga session!
  • 7 Nights options available
Itinerary

Day 1 - 4Stay: Glover's Reef Basecamp on Southwest Caye Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

The trip starts at our Dangriga office on Day 1 at 9 am. Here you will check in with our Island Expeditions’ team and meet your fellow travelers before heading out to the reef.  Due to the early morning check in time (this is when we load luggage and gear into the boat), we suggest that you arrive in Dangriga the night prior, or coordinate with our office to make sure you don’t miss the boat!  We can assist with domestic flights from Belize International Airport or other parts of Belize, as well as accommodation suggestions for the night prior to your trip.

We depart by charter boat to our private Basecamp on Southwest Caye, located on the Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a camp orientation before settling into your ocean view tent cabana. Our guides will begin by showing you the fundamentals of sea kayaking, snorkeling, and tropical water safety.  Once that’s done, you and your group will go paddling to a nearby patch reef and start exploring some of the 700 sites Glover’s Reef Atoll has to offer.

Our itinerary is flexible in order to accommodate individual and group preferences, as well as weather conditions. Activities include paddling, snorkeling the inner and outer walls of the reef, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), learning to sail a kayak and fishing. In the mornings we host informative sessions on the history of Belize, its unique marine ecosystem and the local culture. Just a stone’s throw from shore are excellent fishing waters, where guests can fly fish for bonefish or tarpon.  Guests who prefer a more leisurely pace can always take time to kick back in a hammock and relax with a good book!

Day 5Stay: n/a Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch

Many guests choose to wake up early on this final morning and have a leisurely coffee on the dock.  You may want to watch the sun rise over the atoll, then enjoy a hearty breakfast and get out on a paddleboard one last time. The boat charter departs around mid-morning to take you back to the mainland, arriving at approximately noon.  Your trip finishes in Dangriga at our Operations Base.  A picnic lunch is served, and our helpful staff will assist you with connecting to the next leg of your journey.

Travel note:  For travelers who will be leaving Belize on Day 5, international connections out of the country require a departure after 3:00pm. To connect with Sunday afternoon departures from Belize a short domestic flight is required from Dangriga to Belize International Airport (BZE). Our office can confirm current pricing and book your arrangements. Flight & Hotel Packages are also available.

Please note all itineraries are subject to change depending on weather or safety considerations. Flexibility as our guest and as an international traveler is the key to an awesome experience.
