Looking over the Belize Barrier Reef, Paradise Lodge has private “over the water” beach cabanas on beautiful Tobacco Caye. The small, locally owned lodge is a perfect staging point to explore the many islands, mangrove ranges, and spectacular snorkeling in “Tobacco Cut” just south of the island.
IZE Belize
Southwater Caye is one of the true gems of Southern Belize. IZE Belize’s private cottage overlook the reef crest on a gorgeous island covered in white coral sand and coconut palms. Southwater Caye has excellent off the beach snorkeling and swimming, productive sand flats for flyfishing and an over-the-water Tiki bar where we gather to take in the beauty of another sunset over the Maya Mountains
Arrive at the Belize International Airport, where you are met by an Island Expeditions’ representative and transferred to the Tropical Education Center, Transfers from the airport, lodging and dinner are included.
Waking up to the sounds of the tropics is a pure delight with the chatter of parrots and parakeets overhead. We travel the scenic Hummingbird Highway through the rainforest to the coast and then by water taxi to the southern barrier reef of Belize. To begin, guides provide professional instruction – teaching sea kayaking, snorkeling, and safety in tropical waters before heading out on the water.
We stay two nights on Tobacco Caye within a 17,878 acre Marine Reserve of protected coral reefs, mangroves and small coral islands. This is our tropical paradise to snorkel, sea kayak and paddleboard. For our stay on Tobacco Caye we are spoiled with delicious Caribbean cuisine and the friendly, laid back ‘Island Culture’ of Belize.
We paddle and sail sea kayaks along the barrier reef into the heart of the Southwater Caye Marine Reserve for days of adventure and discovery. Staying on beautiful Southwater Caye we have plentiful time to kayak, snorkel, paddleboard and enjoy the spectacular scenery and marine life of the seldom traveled southern barrier reef.
After an early breakfast our water taxi carries us back to the mainland town of Dangriga where the trip finishes with time to make domestic or international flight connections.
