Glover’s Reef Marine Basecamp
On the water’s edge, with dramatic views over the main reef wall and the open Caribbean Sea, is our dining area, with large raised verandah, lounge and resource library. The enclosed outdoor stoop is where you island guides give their fun and informative talks on the surrounding ecology each morning. The camp is powered by solar generated electricity with freshwater showers, modern compost toilets and solar powered refrigeration. Guests sleep in comfortable wall-tent cabanas with beds, wooden floors, a night stand, lighting and can be outfitted for singles, doubles and family sizes. Delicious meals featuring Creole and international cuisine are prepared and served buffet style in our open air dining area by our much beloved cooks.
Expedition Camping on the river
For two nights, we set camp along the Moho River – the camp locations are sublime and there’s always time for swimming, exploring or just soaking in the beauty of the rainforest before dinner is served. At night, river guides turn into riverside chefs preparing their favorite meals, including fresh tortillas and savory fire roasted chicken. Using their bush skills and sharing intimate relationship with the rainforest your Mayan guides make camping along the Moho River a high point of any trip.
The Lodge at Big Falls
The Lodge of Big Falls, with a mile of river frontage on the banks of the Columbia River, has 8 cabanas, each with ensuite bathrooms. On the property is a swimming pool, lovely main lodge, open air dining room and bar with gardens and an orchard of tropical fruit trees.
Bocawina Rainforest Resort & Adventures
This boutique lodge in the midst of a 700 acre Bocawina National Park offers guests a quintessential tropical rainforest experience. Over the 150 species of birds, howler monkeys, wild peccary, jaguars and ocelots have been recorded in close proximity to the lodge. Enjoy the beautiful tropical landscape on the property and dine in style at the acclaimed Wild Fig restaurant.
Upon arrival at the International Airport connect for a scenic 20 minute flight to the town of Dangriga and then travel overland to Bocawina Rainforest Lodge in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. Tonight we dine in the rainforest at the acclaimed Wild Fig restaurant.
Wake to a tropical rainforest setting that feels straight out of a storybook. From Bocawina Resort we travel south, into the Mayan homeland of Belize, an area of rich indigenous culture and stunning scenery. Your guides teach the skills you need to confidently paddle your inflatable kayak in moving water before starting our journey down one of Belize’s most beautiful rainforest rivers.
Today we break contact completely with the outside world as we follow the Moho River through canyons and lush rainforest. Each bend reveals the dynamic nature of the river with calm meandering sections and stretches of exciting rapids and chutes. Our camps along the river include storytelling and night walks in the tropical jungle.
This morning we descend out of the Maya Mountains into the coastal plains before taking out. Our next stop is the Lodge at Big Falls, our home for the next 2 nights. We settle into our comfortable jungle cabanas with time to enjoy a shower and take in the beautiful grounds before dinner.
We have so much to explore based from our jungle lodge with nearby Maya ruins, a trip to a colorful, family run spice farm and a tasty ‘bean to bar’ Mayan chocolate makers experience. In the afternoon relax and enjoy the pool on the lodge property.
Today we travel 36 miles offshore to our private Basecamp on Southwest Caye within Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve. In this setting of turquoise waters and living coral reefs we have 4 perfect days of paddling sea kayaks and SUPs, snorkeling, sailing and fishing. And best of all, your basecamp staff are dedicated to make sure that your stay is beyond special, so expect to eat well and be pampered between your daily adventures.
Our boat charter back to the mainland departs the atoll late-morning returning to the town of Dangriga, from here our logistics staff assist with connecting you to the next leg of your journey or to the international airport. For travelers leaving Belize on this day, international connections require a departure after 3:00 pm.
