Trip Highlights

Tropical Education Center –  Belize Zoo Forest Cabanas

The Tropical Education Center is situated on 89 acres in a beautiful tropical savanna adjacent to the renowned Belize Zoo. Throughout the property are nature trails and raised boardwalks and wildlife observation platforms. Accommodations are simple yet comfortable with true Belizean character. Your stay at TEC also includes a special night with the wildlife of Belize at the renowned Belize Zoo.

Tobacco Caye Paradise’”

Looking over the Belize Barrier Reef, Paradise Lodge has private “over the water” beach cabanas on beautiful Tobacco Caye. The small, locally owned lodge is a perfect staging point to explore the many islands, mangrove ranges, and spectacular snorkeling in “Tobacco Cut” just south of the island.

IZE Belize

Southwater Caye is one of the true gems of Southern Belize. IZE Belize’s private cottage overlook the reef crest on a gorgeous island covered in white coral sand and coconut palms. Southwater Caye has excellent off the beach snorkeling and swimming, productive sand flats for flyfishing and an over-the-water Tiki bar where we gather to take in the beauty of another sunset over the Maya Mountains

Stand Up Paddleboarding is one of North America’s hottest new sports and the  warm protected waters of the Southern Barrier Reef are ideal for paddlers of varying abilities.

  • Paddleboard in the Southwater Caye Marine Reserve by day, and spend your nights in small, family-run island lodges.
  • Motor boat support on longer paddle days gives you the flexibility to paddle to your comfort and ability.
  • Explore sheltered lagoons with mangrove forests rising from the sea.
  • Excellent snorkeling throughout the area. Snorkeling the coral reefs from your paddleboard is an amazing experience!
  • Inland overnight adventure to the Belize Zoo’s Tropical Education Center.
  • Join select departures with International SUP expert Norm Hann. Norm is a top SUP instructor in North America and offers industry-leading SUP training. For trip dates contact us.
Itinerary

Day 1Stay: Tropical Education Center Meals: Dinner is included on this night

Welcome to Belize!  Your guides will whisk you away from the airport and take you to the Tropical Education Center, set in a 34 acre property amongst tropical pine savanna. After our welcoming dinner, get up close and learn about the wildlife that inhabits Belize with a specially arranged nocturnal tour of the Belize Zoo led by one of the senior zookeepers.

Day 2 - 3Stay: Tobacco Caye Paradise Lodge Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We travel the scenic Hummingbird Highway through the rainforest to the coast and then by water taxi to the southern barrier reef of Belize. To begin, guides provide professional instruction – teaching efficient forward stroke development and touring techniques in tropical seas.

Our next two nights are on Tobacco Caye, within a 17,878 acre Marine Reserve of  warm waters, protected coral reefs, mangroves and small coral islands. In this SUP paradise, we’re also spoiled with delicious Caribbean cuisine and the friendly, laid back ‘Island Culture’ of Belize.

Day 4Stay: Lodge at Southwater Caye Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We paddle along the protected waters of one of the most beautiful sections of the entire reef system. The waters are shallow and clear and we see a tremendous variety of marine life, including  eagle rays, grouper, lobster nurse sharks, and more. Arriving at Southwater Caye, we paddle right up to the beach beside the lodge. After settling into your room, gather for island style cocktails before an excellent dinner.

Day 5Stay: Lodge at Southwater Caye Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Based from Southwater Caye we explore different regions of the Barrier Reef including the inner and outer walls, patch and fringing reefs, mangrove ranges, and protected lagoons.

One of today’s highlights is a visit to the renowned Smithsonian Marine Field Station, where we talk with scientists about the research they do to help protect the coral reefs and marine ecosystems.

As we explore by paddleboard our routes often cross those of the fishermen who make their living from the sea. These candid interactions are a fun a glimpse into a way of life very different from our own.

Day 6Stay: Lodge at Southwater Caye Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our journey today is to the Blue Ground Range and Billy Hawk Caye where a specially prepared fresh-caught seafood lunch is waiting. This can be an exciting downwind paddle that can test your skills and we;ll provide motor boat support throughout the day. In the afternoon we return to Southwater Caye by motorboat, stopping enroute for a snorkel. This evening is a fun celebration for our last night together on the cayes.

Day 7Stay: n/a Meals: Breakfast

After an early breakfast our water taxi carries us back to the mainland town of Dangriga where the trip finishes with time to make domestic or international flight connections.
