Cahal Pech is located in San Ignacio town on top of a hill overlooking the twin town. The site consists of 34 structures with several courtyards including temple pyramids and residential buildings. Cahal Pech means a “place of ticks’ ‘ suggesting that the area was used by the Mayans to pasture the land. This royal acropolis-palace was the location of the elite where a Mayan royal family used to live.
